Clear skies and a warm sun helped lift the Windsor boys track team to a first-place finish and the girls team to second Saturday at the Windsor Invitational at H.J. Dudley Field.

The boys team was paced by the 400-meter race as the Wizards trio of Zane Hyland, Cal Englert and Chris Ullom took first, second and third, respectively. Senior Adam Winick led the way in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.69 seconds and was third in the 110 high hurdles at 16.69.

With all the top finishes for the Wizards, senior pole vaulter Andrew Galemore set a personal best with a height of 12 feet.

“On the boys side we performed very well,” Windsor head coach Conrad Crist said. “We placed three kids in multiple events. We only get three entries per individual event and one relay, so for us to place all the kids we entered into the event shows how deep and strong our team is.”

Galemore, 18, had added depth for the Wizards in the pole vault alongside sophomore Frank Witt. Galemore moved to Windsor last year and is in his first year at the school.

In his freshman year, Galemore vaulted at Fort Zumwalt High School in O’Fallon, Mo., before he moved to Carbondale and attended Basalt High School. Basalt didn’t have pole vaulting as a part of their track program so Galemore didn’t vault for two years.

When Galemore came to Windsor, he got back in the pit, but became frustrated with his performance.

“It was aggravating because freshman year I jumped 11-6 and I was jumping 10 foot here,” Galemore said. “I did pretty good, I PR’d (personal record) so it was good.”

On the girls’ side, another pole vaulter had a strong showing as sophomore Chelsea O’ Connor tied her own school record with a jump of 8 feet and took third in the discus with a throw of 106-31?2.

O’ Connor, a second-year vaulter, has steadily improved with her jumping, but has yet to crack the eight-foot mark.

“My best is eight and I’m trying to get over that,” O’ Connor said. “I just need to work on my technique.”

With help from O’ Connor, the girls finished second behind Greeley Central, but had their fair share of impressive performances. Junior Rachel Weakland prequalified for state in the high jump with a a mark of 5-2, good enough for second, and was second in the triple jump (34 feet) and third in the long jump (15).

Senior Mallory Duran took first in the long jump (15-9 3/4), second in the 200 (27.68) and third in the 100 (13.21).

The 3,200 relay team of Lauren Bowers, Michelle Markham, Ellery Miller and Taylor Kohles scorched the field with a time of 10:11.57. In the 1,600 relay, Bowers, Katie Hazel, Markham and Miller placed second with a time of 4:10.83.
