Even down a player couldn’t hold the Windsor girls golf team from shooting its way to a 12-stroke win in a league event Tuesday at Pelican Lakes Golf Course.
Fleming took second with a team score of 279, and Greeley rounded out the top three with a 302.

Wizards senior Kristen Heiden missed Tuesday’s action because she is in Augusta, Ga., to watch the practice round of the Masters Golf Tournament. In her stead was Morgan Maack who came out and carded a 96 as the Wizards scored a total of 267 for the round.

“I was really happy with her performance,” Windsor head coach Jeff Herring said. “Anytime you can have three girls on the same team that can shoot in the 90s or below you’re going to finish pretty high in these things.”

Senior Erica Schlomer led all golfers with a round of 79 including finishing the back nine with a 38. Schlomer birdied No. 1 and 18 and just missed an eagle on No. 11.

After reaching the green in two shots, Schlomer left her eagle putt about six feet short and then missed her birdie attempt by an inch. Schlomer did have a little trouble on the course as she recorded three 7s on Nos. 3, 5 and 15, but kept her composure to earn individual honors by 10 strokes,

“I started out and birdied the first hole and felt pretty good,” Schlomer said. “Sometimes I don’t like birdieing the first hole because it puts all this pressure on me. It’s frustrating because I know I can shoot in the 70s consistently, but I always have those few bad holes.”

Fellow senior Erika Balfanz had a few bad holes to start her round as she came out of the front nine with a 51, but settled down on the back to shoot a 41.

Balfanz said she started fine on the first two holes but lost her concentration and her cool during the rest of the front nine. Balfanz carded an eight on No. 9 and got a little guidance from her coach to settle her mind.

“I get frustrated so easily and I get upset I can’t get out of that hole,” Balfanz said. “Finally my coach (Herring) came up and talked to me and said ‘Straighten up,’ and I did.”

Windsor is now 3-for-3 on the season with its first two wins coming at the Brush league match and the Brush Invite. Windsor won with scores of 274 and 263, respectively.

The Wizards will play again at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Fleming league event.
