Pink flamingos with rotating wings may be showing up in your front yard courtesy of he Windsor High School Theater Department flockers.

The department is currently fundraising for its 2009 trip to New York City and for $20 the group will flock to requested yards and decorate them with the pink figures.

Surprise your neighbor, your friend or a family member. The flamingos are ready to celebrate a birthday or any other special occasion during the month of May.

The flamingo recipient will be left with an explanation, care instructions and the number to the Flamingo Rescue Hotline. The flockers will be back to remove the birds within 48 hours.

For those community members who want to avoid being flocked, a fee of $25 can be donated to the theater department for anti-flocking insurance.

"People are totally getting into it," said Julie Estrada, high school drama instructor.

The fundraiser was suggested by a student in the theater department, whose church participated in the flocking event one year. Estrada also heard about it from her own mother, whose lawn had once been covered pink.

"I always try to find different and creative ways to earn money," Estrada said. "You always have the Butter Braids and the chocolate, so I try not to sell, sell and sell. This is selling, but it's something that is useless and you don't keep it."

The department has made several rules about flocking, including:

-- Flocking should be done in good spirit and should never be meant to be malicious.

-- The "Victim" should be good natured and have a sense of humor.

-- Flocking can only take place in residential front yards (no apartments, condos, public places or businesses) Gated communities may be a problem. (Please be sure the flockers can easily arrange access into these areas for both delivery and pick up)

-- Flamingos do not migrate outside of Windsor, Severance, east Loveland or north Fort Collins.

All proceeds from the flamingo fundraiser will go toward the theater department and help with costumes, plays or the trip to New York.

"They get to use it for anything theater related," Estrada said.

As of Friday, six lawns in Windsor had already been flocked and eight more are scheduled next week.

The flocking will run through the end of the month and then will return in the fall and then the spring of 2009 when the students return back to school.

"I hope this will take off and people will be excited for it again next year because it's so fun and a different thing for Windsor," Estrada said. "Support the drama club. The more money we can raise, the more we get to do and have bigger and better shows."
