ALL AROUND OUR TOWN: Fountain is the answer at Boardwalk Park

I never proclaim to have all the answers — even though my wife and kids might disagree with that — but I do have the only answer to the most asked question in Windsor.

What should replace the Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District’s fire museum at Boardwalk Park that was leveled by the May 22 tornado?

A fountain.

Not just any old fountain. This fountain will entertain people for hours. It will be the favorite place for your pet (see photo at right). It’ll cool off your children, and it’ll fit in perfect for the entrance at Boardwalk Park.

I don’t know how much money it’ll cost. I don’t know how difficult it’ll be to install, but Windsor just has to get one.

If all the people who were at the forum July 2 to discuss what to do with the space that the fire museum once stood on ever had a chance to enjoy this unique fountain, they would vote unanimously in favor of putting one in at Boardwalk Park.

This fountain has multiple holes that shoot up water. At night, the water that shoots up at various levels is different colors.

I had a chance to enjoy such a fountain while I was on vacation in Pennsylvania. A Pittsburgh neighborhood had a town square that included the fountain, and it was the highlight for people of all ages.

Benches surrounded the fountain, and they were far enough away that the water didn’t sprinkle those sitting on the benches.

This one man brought his boxer (see photo) to the fountain. For 10 minutes, this boxer tried to swallow the water that was shooting up from the holes. As one hole became empty, the dog went to another hole trying to catch the water. People of all ages cracked up watching this dog’s act.

Unlike the fire museum, which blocked the marvelous view of Windsor Lake, this fountain will only enhance the view.

Some people want a pavilion to replace the fire museum. I’m sure there are a number of ideas from other people. Some people may say there is already water down at the lake and we don't need a fountain, but this is different. The fountain will be where the entire community can hang out, from youngsters to senior citizens.

The only thing that should replace the fire museum is that cool fountain with the holes that shoot up water, and there are pipes from the fire museum already there for water.

A second public forum on the fire museum/Boardwalk Park issue will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 North 11th St.
Bring this wonderful fountain idea to the meeting with you.

Think fountain when someone asks you what needs to be at the entrance of the beautiful Boardwalk Park.

That’s the one and only answer to that nagging Boardwalk Park question.
