BREAKING NEWS: Wal-Mart inquires about building permit

It appears the dirt movement on Colo. 392 west of King Soopers is more than just infrastructure work.

The Windsor planning and zoning department has confirmed that officials from Wal-Mart contacted planning and zoning Tuesday about pulling a building permit.

"There are still a few pieces of information we are waiting for to issue the permit," planning director Joe Plummer said today.

Windsor Now is waiting for phone calls from Josh Phair, a spokesman with Wal-Mart and Jeff Kaplinski, the developer for the site.

Plummer said Wal-Mart still needs to submit construction and electrical valuations before the Town, Safebuilt and the Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District can figure out the fees associated with the permit. Paper copies of the site plans must also be on file, Plummer said.

Recent movement of dirt on the land Wal-Mart purchased last year has had many speculating when the retail giant would move into town. Wal-Mart is currently underway on its new store in Timnath at the northeast corner of Interstate 25 and Harmony Road.

Once a permit is pulled, it usually takes Wal-Mart nine to 12 months to open. Unless there are major changes to the site plan on file with the town, the construction does not need to go back to the Windsor Planning Commission for approval.

Although Plummer was unsure of a timeline when the documents would be given to the town, he said it appears the company's plans for a Windsor store are back on track.

" It looks like it's getting closer," Plummer said.
