All after-school activities in the Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District have been canceled with the exception of two varsity sports at Windsor High School due to the first snowstorm of the season.

According to the district office, the only activities still on after school are the WHS football and volleyball practices.

There will be no play practice or drama practice at the high school. The girls basketball meeting and Plato have been canceled.

All after-school clubs and boys basketball practice have been canceled at Windsor Middle School.

At Severance Middle School, boys basketball practice, the student Hawk leadership council meeting, drama club and homework club have been canceled.

Tozer Primary and Grandview Elementary schools had no activities planned after school.

Choir practice at Skyview Elementary School has been canceled..

The Lego League and tutoring have been canceled at Mountain View Elementary School.

The schools in the district remained open all day.

“According to the weather forecast, it's supposed to be like this steady, but heavy impact is going to come late tonight,” said district superintendent KarenTrusler at around 11:30 a.m. today.

Trusler, Nacho Alvarado (director of transportation) and assistant superintendent for business services Stephanie Watson were in the process of driving the back roads throughout the district and checking the bus routes.

“We've driven from the north end and now we're driving east. Nothing's drifting,” Trusler said. “I anticipate that it's going to get worse late this afternoon and early evening.”

Trusler said schools in Fort Collins and Johnstown closed down for the day.

Trusler wasn't ready to call off school Thursday, but she did say she'd make the decision sometime Wednesday evening.

Brenda Stroman, assistant public information officer for the Windsor-Severance Fire Protection District, said there hasn't been a lot of emergency calls.

“We've been pretty quiet actually,” Stroman said about the morning. “We've had one call and that was out on (U.S.) 34 and (Weld) County Road 15, and it was a non-injury. It's been pretty quiet.”

Stroman said calls will probably increase as the day goes on.

“We're will probably get it is this evening once everybody starts heading home,” Stroman said. “By then, it's going to be colder and everything else, but right now we haven't opened the EOC (Emergency Operation Center) or anything.”
