Weld County mail-in ballots running about 23 percent return through Monday

About 26,000 ballots have been received so far for Tuesday's mail-in election, Weld County Clerk and Recorder Steve Moreno said Monday morning.

The county has 114,748 active voters, putting the turnout at about 23 percent so far. Moreno said the turnout is higher in Greeley, in the 30 percent range, where voters are electing a new mayor as well as deciding whether to support a mill-levy override in Greeley-Evans School District 6. The schools measure would raise property taxes to boost district funding by $16 million a year.

It's too late to mail them, but ballots can still be hand-delivered through 7 p.m. Tuesday to these three election offices:

« Weld County Election Office, 1401 N. 17th Ave. in Greeley.

« Southwest Weld Office (Del Camino) at 4209 Weld County Road 241⁄2 in Longmont.

« Southeast Weld Office at 2950 9th St. in Fort Lupton.

If voters want to double-check to make sure their ballot has been received they can check online at www.co.weld.co.us. Click the “Elections” tab at left, which takes you to the Weld Clerk and Recorder home page. Then click “Voter Lookup” in the upper right and type in your voter information in the fields provided. The site will tell you whether your ballot has been received.

Election results will be accessible on Tuesday after 7 p.m. at the www.co.weld.co.us web site under the Election Department section.

For more information, call (970) 304-6525 in the Greeley area and (720) 652-4200 ext. 3070 in other parts of the county.
