Fort Collins organization hosting discussion on saving higher education



CrossCurrents of Fort Collins is presenting a panel discussion on "Saving Public Higher Education: How Can it Survive."

The event will be held on Dec. 3 and televised live from the Fort Collins City Council chambers, 300 LaPorte Ave., Fort Collins. The public is invited to attend and submit questions.

Panelists will discuss issues involving privatization of programs and colleges, increasing tuition, special tax for higher education, recruiting additional out-of-state and international students.

Panelists include: Robert Hoffert, dean emeritus of the Colorado State University College of Liberal Arts; Loren Crabtree, former dean of the CSU College of Liberal Arts and former CSU provost and academic vice-president; Don Marostica, director of economic development and international trade, Denver; and Rich Schweigert, chief financial officer, CSU system, Denver.

Barbara Rutstein, a member of the League of Women Voters of Larimer County, will moderate the discussion.

The audience is asked to be seated 10-15 minutes before the broadcast, which begins at 7 p.m.

The broadcast can be seen on Fort Collins cable channel 14, channel 16 in Loveland and channel 45 in Wellington and LaPorte. It can also be viewed online at www.fcgov.com/cable14. DVD copies are available at public libraries in Fort Collins and Berthoud.

CrossCurrents is a monthly program produced by the city of Fort Collins in cooperation with the League of Women Voters of Larimer county. The series aims to provide a balanced and fair discussion of various local, state, regional and national issues.
