Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area received federal funding

In March 2009, Congress passed legislation recreating the Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area and designating the Poudre Heritage Alliance as the local coordinating entity for the heritage area.

In addition to other agencies, Larimer and Weld counties and the cities of Fort Collins, Greeley, Timnath, and Windsor participate in the Alliance.

In the current federal-budget year, up to $150,000 has been allocated toward this site. The funds are administered through the National Park Service, Department of the Interior and must be matched dollar-for-dollar either in cash or in-kind services.

The funds are to be used to prepare a management plan for the Heritage Area, which must be completed within three years. The legislation creating the Cache la Poudre River National Heritage Area specifically states that the alliance shall not use federal funds to acquire real property or any interest in real property.
