The Severance Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team made history last weekend by winning the school's first girls team championship.
The future Windsor Wizards won the Northern Colorado Athletic Conference Championship and did so in fine fashion. The Hawks beat Lucille Erwin Middle School 33-20 in the semifinal game to have a shot at a rematch with Walt Clark Middle School in the championship game.
It was the rubber match game for the season, and also a rematch of last year's championship game.
The Hawks took home the championship by nipping Walt Clark 42-37.
The Hawks finished 8-2 during the regular season and 10-2 overall.
The Hawks found a way to avenge earlier season losses. Their only two losses of the season were to Lucille Erwin and Walt Clark, the two teams they beat in the championship bracket. The girls were coached by former Windsor High School girls basketball coach Deb Neely and former Windsor girls soccer coach Emily Agone. Congratulations to everyone involved with the championship team.
