A Windsor youth baseball team came home with the first-place championship trophy and outscored the opposition by more than a 2-to-1 margin in its end-of-the-year tournament. The Northern Colorado Rampage 9U baseball team, which plays in the Longmont AA competitive baseball league, made an unbelievable comeback in the championship game to win the trophy.
“In the championship bracket, we scored a total of 58 runs and allowed only 28 runs and finished the tournament with only one loss during the tourney, which we avenged in the championship game,” said head coach Brad Hudson. “During the championship game, we fell behind 14-0 after the top of the first inning after some untimely errors and some nerves I believe.”
Following the 14-run inning, though, the kids bounced back in spectacular fashion.
“The kids on the team did not hang their heads or give up, a fact I am most proud of, and simply understood they were better than that and needed to concentrate and score some runs to get back in the game,” Hudson said. “(As) a tribute to the kids' mental toughness, they battled back and we battled back winning the championship game 35-25.”
Hudson said all 10 players at some point came through with a big hit or a great defensive play to allow them to battle back and get the win.
“We had solid pitching throughout the tournament and the kids' bats were simply really hot,” Hudson said.
