The town of Windsor's 2012 Arbor Day poster calendar is out and it's looking better than ever.
The calendars, which have been a part of the Windsor scene for the past decade, is courtesy the town of Windsor Tree Board and features artwork and poetry of trees from students in the Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District.
The town of Windsor, with the cooperation of the school district, holds a poster contest every year.
Windsor town forester Ken Kawamura said when describing the calendar contest on the inside cover of this year's calendar that there is a different theme for the posters each year. This year's theme is: “Trees are terrific ... From Acorns to Oak.”
Kawamura said of the 1,080 posters and five poems received this year, the first-, second- and third-place winners are included in the calendar.
Kawamura said the posters and poems in the calendar are an excellent representation of Windsor's young students' thoughtfulness and compassion for the environment and the green community. He said the artwork in the calendar from the students shows the life cycle of trees and the magic of how such tiny seeds can produce trees like the majestic oak.
Calendars are available at the Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 N. 11th St., or at Windsor Now, 423 Main St.
