Windsor Highs graduate rate sees overall improvement
WINDSOR
Graduation rates for Hispanics dropped at Windsor High School for the class of 2011, while the overall rate remained fairly steady.
The percent of Hispanic students to graduate fell from 67.9 percent in 2010 to 63.6 percent last year, according to the Colorado Department of Education. Amy Heinsma, district assessment coordinator for the Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District said the administration and staff are working to better address the needs of these specific students.
For any desegregated group that drops, we try to pinpoint what those root problems are, she said. Thats something that we are needing to take a look at across the board, whether for elementary or high school students. We want to make sure that we are here for all students.
The schools overall graduation rate is one of the highest in Weld County, a statistic that Heinsma said the administration attributes to both a freshman-specific course that helps with the transition to high school and time management, as well as a post-secondary career planning program.
Those are two things that will help us to continue to improve the rate, Heinsma said. The hope is to continue to work with those tools, but the problem is making sure we have the funding for enough personnel to advise students.
