Of all the responsibilities Cathy Robbins has as senior vice president with the El Pomar Foundation, distributing dollars to nonprofit organizations the ones that provide such needed services to their communities is by far her favorite, she said to a crowd of about 50 people in the Greeley Recreation Center Tuesday morning.
That being the case, it must have been an ideal day on the job for Robbins, as she and others affiliated with El Pomar were in town to hand out the approximately $90,000 raised during the 2011 Northern Colorado Empty Stocking Fund campaign.
As was announced Tuesday, this years Empty Stocking campaign in which El Pomar for the fifth consecutive year provided additional fundraising resources during the holiday season to local nonprofit, human service agencies raised $67,887.
And, as it does each year, El Pomar, a Colorado Springs-based nonprofit organization that supports other nonprofit agencies and government entities though grants and programs, matched every $3 raised with $1 of their own during the Northern Colorado Empty Stocking Fund campaign, bringing the total amount raised this year to $90,516 all of which was handed out to eight agencies from Weld and Larimer counties Tuesday.
This years recipient agencies were the Catholic Charities of Weld County, Catholic Charities of Larimer County, Connections for Independent Living, Crossroads Ministry of Estes Park, Weld Food Bank, Food Bank for Larimer County, Greeley Transitional House and House of Neighborly Service.
United Ways of Weld and Larimer counties covered all administrative costs for the campaign, meaning every dollar donated went directly to the recipient organizations.
These dollars come at such a critical time for our operations, said Kevin Mullin, director of development with the Weld Food Bank in Greeley. He explained that the holidays when the local food bank provides more meals and prepares more food baskets than during other times of the year is an expensive season for the organization, and the bills from those efforts are coming due right about now. It makes a huge difference and means a great deal to us.
Since the program started in 2007, the Northern Colorado Empty Stocking Fund, with the 33-percent matching funds from El Pomar, has raised $423,760 for agencies in northern Colorado.
