As swimming and wrestling postseasons near and basketball league title races heat up, the blizzard-like conditions throughout Weld County have put a temporary freeze on winter high school sports action.
The heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions wiped out a full slate of prep matchups Friday.
Many schools have announced make-up dates for postponed events.
Girls conference swimming and diving meets, which were originally scheduled to begin with diving events on Friday will now take place, in their entirety, today.
Eaton, Valley, Windsor and Northridge will compete at the Class 4A Tri-Valley Conference meet today at the Greeley Recreation Center.
Greeley Central is at the 4A Northern Conference meet today at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland.
The Wildcats boys and basketball games have been rescheduled for Feb. 15.
Greeley West will compete in the 5A Front Range Conference meet, beginning with diving at 9 a.m. today at Mountain View High School in Loveland.
Valleys 3A Patriot League boys and girls basketball games against Highland have been moved to today.
The girls will play at 1:30 p.m. in Gilcrest, and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m. in Ault.
University has also rescheduled its Patriot League games, against Lyons. The Bulldogs boys will play at Lyons at 4 p.m. and the University girls will play at home at 4 p.m.
Platte Valleys Patriot League games against Weld Central have been moved to Feb. 13 with the girls playing in Kersey and the boys competing in Keenesburg.
Eatons girls game in Brush and its boys game, at home against the Beetdiggers, have been moved to Monday.
The Windsor-Roosevelt 4A Tri-Valley matchup with the boys playing in Johnstown and the girls in Windsor has been moved to Wednesday.
There has already been a pair of boys-girls hoops matchups that were originally scheduled for today that have been wiped out.
Pawnees games against Woodlin have been cancelled and will not be made up, while Briggsdales games against Union Colony have been postponed with a makeup date yet to be announced.
Aside from prep sports, the Colorado Cougars ABA franchise had to cancel a pair of weekend games against the Colorado Springs Crusaders.
