A high wind warning has been issued for northeast Colorado beginning late tonight and continuing through Wednesday night.
U.S. 287 northwest of Fort Collins to Laramie, Wyo., was reopened by highway officials about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. It had been closed since Monday evening because of high wind and blowing snow.
The National Weather Service said most areas of Weld County and the northern Colorado Front Range and foothills can expect higher winds to begin tonight, with peak gusts of up to 80 mph expected west of Interstate 25 on Wednesday. Some wind prone areas along the foothills will see wind gusts near 100 mph.
The northern Colorado mountains are expected to get significant snowfall from this story, which will continue in the mountains through Thursday. Driving conditions in the mountains and along the foothills could be dangerous because of blowing snow, the weather service reported. Minimal snowfall is expected on the plains.
