Center for Independence starts fundraiser for clinic

Disabled residents of Weld and Morgan counties could someday get a little extra medical care.

With a $102,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation, officials at the Greeley Center for Independence hope to start a fundraising campaign to build a handicap-accesible clinic to make care more readily available for patients with disabilities.

Preparations for a new clinic already have begun as The Northern Colorado Medical Center and Paralyzed Veterans of America have joined with the center to create a three-phase program to educate and train those in health care to care for those with disabilities, and to launch a fundraising campaign. The first phase of the project started in January with a seminar in which an estimated 40 people attended to receive training from specialists from Craig Hospital in Denver. The seminar addressed issues on proper wound treatments.

The second phase involves a wound-prevention program. The last phase of the program involves the planning, design and eventual construction of the clinic. First the center needs to raise the money.
