Small businesses get shot at makeover

Brian Rudy knows exactly how he would make over his business.

"I'd like to buy some more tables and chairs," said the 33-year-old who owns Jimmy Johns, 2644 11th Ave. in Greeley. "We're filling up more and more."

He took over the sub shop in December and said business has steadily increased, but it can always be better.

Rudy may have a way to get that extra funding.

The National Federation of Independent Business along with SBTV.com and Sam's Club will give away a $100,000 business makeover as part of National Small Business Week beginning Monday through April 25. The makeover would include $25,000 in cash, merchandise, supplies and equipment from Sam's Club or samsclub.com, mentoring from SBTV.com experts and a lifetime membership to the NFIB as well as a trip to Washington D.C. for the 2008 National Small Business Summit in June.

"Small businesses today operate in an increasingly competitive environment," said Todd Stottlemyer, president and CEO of NFIB in a press release. "Cutting costs is an important factor. We're pleased to partner with Sam's Club and SBTV.com to offer this exciting opportunity."

Rudy said he's already got plans to expand his business.

"As soon as we get this store on its feet, I want to open a second store out west," he said.

A makeover might help.

"It would be sweet if we got that," Rudy said.
