The Town of Windsor conducted the National Citizen’s Survey in 2011 and 2013; through the results of the survey the Town can identify areas where citizens are satisfied or that need improvement along with noting areas that were above or fell below the national benchmark. It also identifies participation levels for various activities. One participation activity area that fell below the national benchmark was the number of citizens that participate in the local government process.
The Town of Windsor has many volunteer opportunities for people who would like to serve on an Advisory Board. Volunteering in your community can be a benefit in many ways; it provides opportunity to connect with others along with establish new friends and contacts. Windsor currently has seven boards or commissions that work together to serve the community.
Appointments to the boards and commissions are made annually in September or March, dependent on the board. Throughout the year, vacancies occur due to resignations. The Clerk’s Office advertises vacancies and coordinates the interview process. All positions require residency within the Town of Windsor and some positions require specific experience. Each board and commission is supported by a staff member and Town Board liaison. The current boards and their meeting dates are as follows:
» Board of Adjustment, 7 p.m. Fourth Thursday of each month.
» Downtown Development Authority, 7:30 a.m. Third Wednesday of each month.
» Historic Preservation Commission, 5:45 p.m. Second Wednesday of each month.
» Parks, Recreation and Culture Advisory Board, 7 p.m. First Tuesday of each month.
» Planning Commission, 7 p.m. First Tuesday and third Wednesday of each month.
» Tree Board, 5 p.m. Fourth Tuesday of each month.
» Water & Sewer Board, 6:30 a.m. Second Wednesday of even months.
» Windsor Housing Authority, 3 p.m. Third Tuesday of each month.
