Hickenlooper signs flood recovery bill

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a bill Thursday morning that would allow him to declare future natural disasters and provide county and individual financial assistance to victims without prior presidential declaration.

Reps. Mike Foote, D-Lafayette, and Stephen Humphrey, R-Severance, sponsored the bill, HB14-1004. The bill received bipartisan support from both the House and the Senate as part of a package of flood recovery bills this legislative season.

“When a natural disaster strikes, local governments and first responders need all the support and resources possible to effectively respond,” Foote said in a news release.
