Wrestling tournament to be held Thursday at Windsor High School
The annual Garrett Valenzuela Memorial Wrestling Tournament will be held starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Windsor High School, 1100 Main St.
According to tournament director Dave Nicholl, the tournament honors the memory of Garrett Valenzuela, who died as a result of an asthma attack in his sleep when he was in elementary school.
“Garrett was a super kid who loved sports and gave his best in everything he did,” Nicholl said. “We want to continue to keep his memory alive in our hearts.”
Nicholl said the kindergarten through second-graders will start their tournament at 5 p.m. The third- through fifth-grade wrestlers will begin wrestling at 7 p.m.
Admission fee for adults is $2. High school, middle school and younger students and children will be admitted free.
“The wrestlers have been working very hard during the two-week wrestling camp and deserve the recognition they will receive at the tournament,” Nicholl said. “Come and see our young wrestlers in action.”
