Inaugural NoCo Hemp Expo scheduled for April 5 in Windsor

Colorado Hemp Company will host the inaugural NoCo Hemp Expo from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. April 5 at Ricky B’s Sports Bar and Venue in Windsor.

The expo will offer a full schedule of speakers and presenters covering various topics, including: industrial hemp farming, processing, seed acquisition, state and federal legislation, research and development, hemp as medicine and hemp’s history, present and future.

“There aren’t a lot of opportunities for farmers who are interested in hemp to find out more info about this in Northern Colorado,” Colorado Hemp Company Owner Morris Beegle said. “Industrial hemp hasn’t been available in the U.S. very long because of its relationship with marijuana. We will be dispelling some of the myths about that here.”

Featured speakers include Ryan Loflin, the first U.S. hemp farmer and Colorado resident to successfully harvest a hemp crop in 56 years; Summer Star Haske and Barbara Fillipone, owners of the Glenwood Springs hemp textiles company Envirotextiles, which works on the global level for hemp production and development; author Doug Fine, who has been tapped as the keynote speaker and will be presenting information from his new book “Hemp Bound.” Fine’s book is scheduled for release on April 20, but will be available at the event for purchase and for signings.

“Hemp has been utilized by civilizations for 10,000 years for industrial purposes,” Morris said. “Hemp is not the same as marijuana. It comes from same family, but it has little to no THC. You can’t get high from it. It’s uses are broad — for creating food and health products, or its use as medicine. It can be grown in a variety of environments and uses less water than cotton, soy or corn.”

Hemp-based foods will also be available, including vegan hemp burgers, hemp green chili, hemp salads, hemp appetizers, hemp ice cream, hemp beer and a hemp-based CannaEnergy with a shot of Zebra vodka.

The expo currently has more than 30 hemp-related companies and organizations, from local to regional, and national to international, represented at the event. It will also feature live music from Jason Downing of Musketeer Gripweed, along with RJ Clay, Josh Rabe and other special guests.

More information is available at www.nocohempexpo.com and at the event’s Facebook event page at www.facebook.com/events/214463368744060/.
