The 26th annual Taste of Weld County event last week attracted more than 600 people and raised $23,000, which will be used to fund three local charity programs.
The event, sponsored by Lutheran Family Services, featured restaurants from around Weld County providing samples of their food.
The money raised will be used to fund:
— Parenting Education and Support, a program that provides classes that help parents learn to have empathy and provide discipline and understanding in raising their children.
— The SafeTouch Program, which teaches children and adolescents to protect themselves from unwanted or abusive touches or attention.
— The CareHouse, a facility that provides an environment for families and children to have supervised visits and safe exchanges in order to maintain family connections.
Each of the programs is intended to help prevent child abuse and the donations from the Taste of Weld County will provide additional resources to make that possible.
