New owner takes over Main Street 7-Eleven, plans for improvements

Ashley Harrison has followed in the footsteps of her parents and grandparents after taking over ownership of the 7-Eleven at 629 Main St. in February.

“My dad owned gas stations in Northern California and so I grew up behind the counter with him,” Harrison said. “We always wanted to do our own thing and work for ourselves,” she said of her and her husband, Spencer.

Harrison’s grandparents also owned a drug store in the small town of Meeteetse, Wyo., and she has pictures from the drug store and her father’s convenience store displayed in 7-Eleven.

Ashley Harrison looked into ownership opportunities in Windsor and found the 7-Eleven was up for sale.

She said she plans to make improvements to the store in the coming weeks and months, including restriping the parking lot and working on landscaping around the store. She also plans to put up a community announcement wall where people can put up fliers for garage sales or lost pets.

“Our goal is really just to brighten up the store and clean it up,” Ashley Harrison said. “Just little things to make it inviting and community-based.”

She said the business also plans to seek out opportunities for community support, including the store’s most recent fundraiser for the family of a Greeley woman who lost her battle with colon cancer last fall.

Last march, Sherra Tanner was diagnosed with colon cancer after a colonoscopy procedure. Her diagnosis was the start of seven months of chemotherapy before she died Oct. 27.

Harrison and her staff raised funds for the family as part of Team Tanner, about 40 friends and family who fundraised and ran the Colorado Half Marathon.

“I think when you own a business in a small town, you’re part of that town,” Harrison said. “I think that our biggest goal being part of the town is that while 7-Eleven is a huge brand name, we’re locally owned and we want people to feel that when they come through the doors we’re going to remember them.”
