Mary Dolores Cumings, 89, of Windsor passed away peacefully May 2.
Dolores was born Nov. 18, 1924, in Makoti, N.D., the daughter of Elizabeth and Joseph Rensch. She grew up in Makoti, attending elementary and high school there. She was known to her family as “Sis” and to her friends as Dolores. She left Makoti to attend college at St. Mary’s in Winona, Minn.
Dolores married Warren Harley Cumings Oct. 22, 1945, at a Catholic Ceremony in Plaza, N.D. She and her husband settled into life on a farm near Makoti.
She was active in the community and enjoyed social functions with friends and family. She accompanied her spouse and children to many sporting events. Her love of baseball began then and continued throughout her life. Dolores was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Altar Society in Makoti.
Dolores and Warren moved their family to Loveland in October 1968. There Dolores worked as a cook at Bill Reed Junior High School. Her excellent baking skills soon became evident and she transferred to Winona Elementary School, where she was head baker.
Dolores and Warren were active members of St. John’s Catholic Church in Loveland. Their lives were filled with friends, children and grandchildren. They enjoyed travel to various parts of the United States and Europe. They spent many winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Dolores enjoyed visiting casinos wherever they traveled — never losing or winning a fortune. She was a fan of the Colorado Rockies and enjoyed watching them from the stands.
Dolores moved to the Willows Assisted Living in Windsor in October 2009. She continued to closely follow the Rockies, never missing a game on television. She also traveled, visiting family in North Dakota and North Carolina.
Dolores is survived by her children, Craig (Phyllis) of Pisgah Forest, N.C., Tim (DiAnn) of Windsor, Beth of Fort Collins, and Scott (MaryAnn) of Windsor; grandchildren, Jacquelin, Jennifer, Laura and Penelope (Craig); Nicole, Nicholas, Nolan and Natalyn (Tim); Shane and Shannon (Beth); and Derek, David and Desiree (Scott).
Other survivors include her 19 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Harold and Donald.
