United Way announces partnership aimed at reducing costs of prescription drugs

United Way and FamilyWize Community Service Partnership has announced in a news release a new 10-year nationwide partnership aimed at helping reduce costs of prescription drugs.

The purpose of the partnership is to ensure everyone has access to affordable prescription medications. The goal is to deliver $1 billion in prescription savings in the next decade.

United Way of Weld County has been involved in the program since 2006 and as of May 1 it has helped Weld residents save more than $900,000.

The FamilyWize prescription card is a discount card available free from the organization’s website www.FamilyWize.org, and it is accepted at most major pharmacies, including Rite Aid, Walgreens, King Soopers, Target, and Walmart. The card can lower the cost of medicine by as much as 75 percent. There is no application process for the card everyone is eligible to use it.

By visiting the FamilyWize website card users can figure out how much a prescription will cost before going to the pharmacy. For more information about obtaining cards to distribute for clients, customers or friends, contact United Way of Weld County at (970) 353-4300 or email uwwc@UnitedWay-Weld.org.
