Windsor Charter Academy girls soccer team takes home NCIL Championship

Windsor Charter Academy’s girls soccer team played in a hard-fought battle against Resurrection Christian School on May 15 to take home the North Colorado Independent League Championship.

The soccer team ended the season as the top seed in their division after an undefeated season (with one tie game against Resurrection Christian School). This year, WCA has swept the league championships for both girls and boys middle school soccer.

In the championship game, the score was tied at halftime 1-1. During the final two minutes of the game, WCA player Julia Broghammer kicked a corner kick to teammate Alyssa Lobato, who then chested the ball in the goal to put the WCA girls in the lead.

Erin Kenney was the game MVP with four saves, two of them in the last 10 minutes of the game.

“I speak for the whole WCA family when I say ‘Lady Firebirds, we are so proud of you,’ ” Beth Leininger, WCA athletic director, said. “Your hard work has paid off. Congratulations on winning the NCIL soccer championships.”

The team is coached by Shawn Pagan and Roger Davies.
