Windsor Eagle Scout’s project erects flagpole at fire museum

Thanks to Alex Loeffelholz’ Eagle Scout project, the Windsor-Severance Fire Museum at 121 N. 6th St. will have a new flag pole display to greet visitors as they walk up to the entrance.

Loeffelholz, a member of Boy Scout Troop 88 and soon-to-be senior at Windsor High School, began his initial work on the project the week of Thanksgiving and finished the project with a dedication ceremony at the museum May 24.

“I got a call from Chief (Herb) Brady saying they needed a flag pole out here,” Loeffelholz said. “So I met with him and realized it was something I could do.”

Loeffelholz worked to coordinate all the different efforts that would be involved with the project, including tearing up the sod in front of the building, pouring concrete, setting the flagpole and accompanying hose cart and having an electrician rig the lighting.

“It’s on a photocell. It comes on at dusk and goes off at dawn,” Loeffelholz said. “I was working with many different schedules. The planning was probably the hardest part.”

The concrete used in Loeffelholz’s project was donated by EZ Pour Ready-Mix, all the electrical work was donated by Bret’s Electric, and Greeley Tent & Awning gave him a discount on the fiberglass flagpole.

The display also features a hose cart, on old piece of firefighting equipment that carried the hose to a fire.

“It was one of the town of Windsor’s first pieces of firefighting equipment,” Loeffelholz said.

The flagpole will remain in front of the museum as a permanent fixture.

“We are honored that Alex chose our organization and he demonstrated leadership, drive and determination to lead this beautiful project to completion,” Windsor-Severance Fire Rescue Chief Brady said.
