The town of Windsor recognized Taryn Cambry Melendez, daughter of Mario and Windsor Town Board member Kristie Melendez , for receiving the third-annual SafeBuilt Scholarship during the board’s meeting Monday night.
Melendez earned a 3.98 grade-point average in high school and plans to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder in the fall to study pharmaceutical sciences. While in school, she participated in soccer, cross country and track, as well as numerous other activities.
“I just wanted to thank all you guys for supporting me and my future,” Melendez said. “We know it’s going to be a six-year venture and it’s not going to be very cheap.”
Mayor John Vazquez said, as a family friend, he’s watched her grow up and wished her the best of luck going forward.
“You represent the town of Windsor very well and we wish you the best of success at CU in your endeavors with your pharmaceutical dreams,” Vazquez said. “Congratulations on a job well done.”
Melendez also received the following scholarships this year: the University of Colorado-Boulder Outstanding Junior Award, Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, Windsor Optimist Club Female Athlete Award, The Colorado High School Activities Association, College in Colorado and The Colorado Rockies Active Scholar Award, United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award and the W.L. McCall Valedictorian Scholarship.
