Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District Superintendent Karen Trusler welcomes in another new school year

Dear Re-4 School District Community,

It is late summer and so it is also that exciting part of the season known as back-to-school time. A new school year promises new beginnings and learning opportunities for our approximately 5,000 students from preschool through high school. Our youth may only count as 20 percent of our population, but they are certainly 100 percent of our future.

Windsor-Severance Re-4 School District citizens take great pride in the quality of education opportunities for our children. Indeed, student successes in the district are a result of a strong partnership with our community. We are a community that places our youth at high levels of importance. This is apparent as we talk about how to take care of the increasing growth in our schools, what educational options should be available for students and our continued focus on safety. Everyone in our community supports education in many different ways such as involvement in our schools, volunteering, funding of our schools, as well as your positive thoughts for our children and staff. Our discussions and attention always will be on what is best for children and our future. We are thankful for this strong partnership within our community.

Our vision is to educate children for life in the 21st century by empowering students to achieve success in a safe and collaborative environment. To achieve our vision, students must possess knowledge in subject matter as well as have effective communication skills. Critical thinking is another key component. In addition, there has never been a better time for innovation and creativity to succeed in this world. Finally, citizenship in the digital age is crucial for each student. We will as a team concentrate in these areas in order to help our students achieve at high levels.

Staff members have been busy with all of the preparations needed in order to be ready for our first day of school from getting facilities ready, to preparing coursework, to finalizing safety procedures. The recent flooding was a setback to our preparations, however we will be ready for students’ first day Thursday. We are excited to welcome everyone to the 2014-2015 school year. Our staff members are proud to serve the Re-4 school district community.

I am grateful to be part of this dynamic school district. I look forward to working with you and serving our community. I appreciate and respect your involvement with our children’s education. Here’s to another great school year!

Sincerely,

Karen Trusler

Superintendent
