Former missile silo site campground near Windsor closed for repairs

The Missile Site Campground was closed for repairs last Wednesday .

The campground, at 10611 Spur 257 near the Windsor exit off U.S. 34, will remain closed while construction repairs and maintenance projects are completed.

It will remain open for tours. The site was built in 1961. It formerly was equipped with a nuclear warhead. There were a total of four missile sites in Weld County. This one was deactivated in 1965 and turned over to Weld County.

County director of buildings and grounds Toby Taylor said in a news release that construction crews will make repairs from hail damage last year to structures on the campground.

“After the flood hit last year, priorities changed as far as repairs,” Taylor said in the release. “It’s time to get these maintenance projects and repairs at the Missile Site Campground completed.”
