After receiving the most sampling tokens at the Gnarly Barley Beer Festival, High Hops Brewery was able to give $500 to the charity of its choice.
“It’s an awesome organization,” High Hops’ Amanda Weakland said. “Helping kids? It’s a no-brainer.”
The brewery presented a check to St. Jude Children’s Hospital on Aug. 27, along with representatives from Clear Channel Radio and Ovation Food Services.
“This year, everybody who came to the event to sample any of the beers had little tokens and whoever collected the most tokens, we said we’d donate $500 to the charity of your choice,” said Phil Hossler with Ovations Food Services from the Budweiser Events Center.
High Hops also received the most votes for the People’s Choice Award at the festival for the second year in a row, beating out 26 other local and national breweries for the recognition.
“We’re really honored on behalf of us and all the kids at St. Jude,” Tara Moyer, regional director for St. Jude Children’s Hospital said. “There are so many incredible ways to give your money and to choose St. Jude really means a lot. St. Jude is changing the way the world understands childhood cancer and really making some incredible advances. So your money is going to a great place.”
