Breast Friends of Windsor, a support group for women whom are breast cancer survivors or who are undergoing breast cancer treatment, is selling The Power of Pink cards as a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
The pink cards will be sold for $20 and include the names of various Windsor businesses who provide discounts and deals on the card.
The businesses on the card are: Hudson’s Bay, Morey’s Glass & Metals, Pampered Pelican, Windsor Eye Care & Vision Center, Coolberry Frozen Yogurt, Pike’s Auto Care Center, House of Windsor General Store & Malt Shop, Senor Jalapeno, Designing Beauty Academy, Flowers From the Farm, Windsor Now, Bank of Colorado, Wing Shack, Stuft Burger Bar, Memory Lane Antiques & Refinishing, Mail N Copy, Windsor State Bank and Smart Photography.
Breast Friends will begin selling the cards at the Windsor High School homecoming football game on Friday and then at the businesses listed above. The card will be good for one year.
Debbie Martin, co-founder of Breast Friends along with Tracy Morey and Stephanie DeWayne, said the card fundraiser is a community thing.
“You just see how everybody pulls together, and Breast Friends wouldn’t be what they are if it wasn’t for the community,” Martin said. “People like to buy something and donate to something when they know they get something back. We love it when we can help support our local businesses and our local businesses are supporting the community because they’re giving back to the community. It’s a just a win-win, and in the meantime they’re helping Breast Friends. Our motto for Breast Friends is: ‘The greatest good is what we do for one another.’ I think we just follow that.”
The money raised from the card goes to non-medical support for those with breast cancer, such as house cleaning, day care, meals, hats, under-the-arm comfort pillows and hair turbans.
“Every time they use that card, they are helping a woman going through breast cancer,” Martin said.
Also for sale at the football game will be pink bows for $5, steel pink ribbons for $50 and Help Us Wipe Out Cancer handmade pink wash cloths for $5 made by Windsor resident Arla Rohrer, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
For more information, contact Martin at (970) 482-2059 or Tracy Morey at (970) 686-2058 or go to the Breast Friends website at bfcancersupportgroup.org.
Martin said members of Breast Friends will be out Tuesday night tying pink ribbons on trees up and down Main Street. Martin also said Papa Murphy’s Take and Bake Pizza, 1550 Main St., will donate $2 for every pizza sold on Oct. 10. Customers purchasing pizza need to say that they want the $2 donated to Breast Friends. For the second straight year, the Windsor High School football team will take down the pink ribbons off the trees on Main Street when November rolls around, Martin said.
