The Windsor FFA has been seriously stepping up its volunteer efforts in the community, even before starting the new school year. At the end of the 2011/2012 school year, the new officer team was elected. The team now is: Cody Roth (president), Liam Kellogg (vice president), Sarah Hirsch (secretary), Madie Demaske (treasurer), Cole Mills (reporter), Cam Mills (sentinel), Nikki Killian (historian) and Nichole Fischer and Bowe Colohan as the executive committee.
This summer, the new teammates took a bonding retreat to Denver, going to a Rockies game and the Denver Zoo. This officer team looks very promising for success of the Windsor FFA Chapter.
Recently, the Windsor High School After-Prom Committee held its annual Peach Sales (run by chairwoman Pamela Mills). The Windsor FFA Chapter gave its assistance to the After Prom Committee to help sort, carry and load the boxes of assorted fruit on two separate dates (Aug. 18, selling only peaches, and Aug. 25, selling peaches, apples and pears). During the course of the two weekends, the Windsor FFA Chapter assisted in carrying more than 960 boxes of fruit and helped raise more than $7,000 that goes directly to benefit the After Prom event.
“I don’t know what we would have done without the Windsor FFA kids,” said Pamela Mills.
Windsor is known for its Harvest Festival, which consists of the parade, the park activities, fireworks, the street dance and much more. The Windsor FFA Chapter recognizes how agriculturally stable Weld County is and has almost always built a float for the parade. The theme for this year’s parade was “Small Town, Big Dreams” and the FFA always embraces the dreams.
This year’s FFA float was pulled by a John Deere tractor and students gathered to ride or walk alongside to support the community’s FFA Chapter. This year Harvest Festival was yet another success.
Every year, the Windsor FFA Chapter holds its annual Ice Breaker, which officially launches the year’s FFA activities and gives students, faculty, parents and supporters an opportunity to get better acquainted. All of the officers will give a speech about the different aspects of the FFA and once they are done, will literally break a block of ice and will start the year off to a great start.
