The Windsor Town Board formally approved a three-tiered water rates system for single-family homes during Monday’s meeting, following through a summer-long investigation and September discussions.
The changes are slated to take effect Jan. 15 and will bring in an estimated $127,000 in additional revenue, according to town officials based on 2011 figures. The money will be used to shoulder increased water rates from area suppliers.
The rate system will mirror similar systems in the surrounding area.
New rates will be:
n Less than 16,000 gallons/month = $3.42/1,000 gallons
n Between 16,000 and 22,500 gallons/month = $5.10/ 1,000 gallons
n More than 22,500 gallons/month = $7.60/1,000 gallons
“I like the way that it’s structured,” said Mayor John Vazquez. “It still encourages and promotes conservation and good stewardship. I think it’s fair.”
