Windsor’s McDonald’s redesign nearly complete, lobby to reopen Friday

People don’t often associate the catch phrase “I’m lovin’ it” with a large-scale construction project, but that’s exactly what’s happening with a complete remodel of Windsor’s only McDonald’s restaurant.

Nestled in the heart of town along Main Street, workers have been revamping the town’s beloved fast-food joint since Oct. 1. Efforts have included modernizing the interior, revamping seating areas, adding a fresh coat of vibrant red paint and streamlining the exterior, manager Jennifer Saldivar said. Since Oct. 26, though, the lobby has been closed while crews race to complete the interior redesign, forcing everyone to use the drive through .

It was no easy feat, but Saldivar said the crew has taken the struggles and changes in stride.

The lobby is slated to reopen Friday if all goes according to plan, she said.

“We’ve just been pushing all of our people into the drive through area and just pushing them through as quickly and accurately as we can,” she said one frantic mid-week evening ahead of the dinner rush. “Hopefully everything is on time.”

Specifically, she said colors will be brighter, including more reds and browns throughout with a more open-feeling interior. Customers also will notice a more “kept-up” appearance.

“It looks nicer,” she said. “It’s just going to be really neat. We’re pretty excited.”

Though being restricted to outside-service has been challenging, she said business and popularity doesn’t appear to have taken a hit, noting that remodelling projects are happening in restaurants companywide.

She said exact figures were not immediately available. She could not disclose the overall cost of the project, and a call to the McDonald’s area office was not immediately returned.

Saldivar said she was not aware of when the exterior construction would be complete, but she they the grand reopening is scheduled for the coming weeks.

“My hope is to just stay busy,” she said, thanking the devoted community that has continued to be supportive. “It’s amazing. I love it.”

According to the company’s website, McDonald’s operates 33,000 locations throughout the world, reaching nearly 68 million people daily in 119 countries, easily making it one of the largest fast food chains in the world.
