A Greeley mother was sentenced Tuesday to serve two years of supervised probation for helping her son hide from police after he shot his cousin.
Mary Lou Jordan, 36, pleaded guilty to helping her son, 21-year-old Joseph Gonzales, hide from police after he shot and seriously wounded his cousin, Trinidad Erebia.
Erebia, 26, was shot once in the upper thigh on Feb. 28 in downtown Greeley. He survived. Police believe both men were gang members. Another man, Arturo Betancourt Jr., was also accused of being involved in the altercation.
Gonzales was sentenced earlier this month to 13 years in prison for attempted second-degree murder. Jordan was in a car with her son when he was arrested weeks after the shooting, according to an arrest affidavit.
Fernando Erebia, Jordan’s brother and an uncle to Gonzales and Erebia, also faces charges for helping Gonzales avoid police. Police say Fernando Erebia rented a motel room in Lucerne where Gonzales hid. His next court appearance is Jan. 25.
