Windsor man, 47, dies in traffic crash early Saturday

A 47-year-old Windsor man died early Saturday morning in a traffic crash about 4 miles north of Windsor.

The victim was identified as Ricardo Montalvo, according to the Weld County Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred about 12:50 a.m. Saturday near Weld County Road 74 and Colo. 257. Montalvo was driving a 1991 Honda coupe on Colo. 257 when he collided with a 2006 Subaru sedan at the intersection of Weld 74. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru, whose name was not immediately released, was transported to North Colorado Medical Center, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper Josh Lewis said. He said he did not know the extent or nature of the injuries the Subaru driver suffered. There were other passengers in the Subaru, but none of them were injured, he said.

Lewis said both roads were open in all directions; however, police were continuing to investigate Saturday afternoon.

Montalvo is the third person to die this year on Weld roads. Through this date last year, two people had been killed.
