Windsor Charter Academy’s spelling bee competition on Jan. 18 came down to 17 finalists from sixth, seventh and eighth grades. A big shoutout goes to eighth-grader Emma Bickford, this year’s Windsor Charter Academy winner.
Some of the words included in the competition were: compendium, compunction, salubrious, augury, giantesque and paucity.
Emma and three other WCA students will compete at Severance Middle School for the district spelling bee at 6 p.m. Monday. The winner of that competition will go on to the state competition at the Colorado Convention Center on March 15.
The place-winners were: first place — Emma Bickford, second place — Brandon Ramirez, third Place — Katie Dumm and fourth place — Lindsey Goeden.

Windsor High School graduate Kelsey Doddridge was named to Western Nebraska Community College’s President’s List for the fall semester.
According to a press release from the college, to be eligible for President’s List, a student must complete at least 12 credits of college-level courses and other degree-required courses with a 4.0 grade-point average.
Doddridge, the daughter of Tina and Vance Doddridge of Windsor, is also a member of the women’s basketball team and is averaging 6.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game for the 14-0 squad. Doddridge has started seven of the 14 games.
