Prep basketball’s postseason is heating up as numerous Weld County teams are poised to take the court in the hopes of extending their seasons.
In boys Class 3A Patriot League district action, No. 3 seen University plays host to No. 6 seeded Eaton tonight. No. 4 seed Fort Lupton hosts No. 5 seed Estes Park while No. 7 seed Valley hits the road to take on the Beetdiggers in Brush. No. 8 seed Platte Valley faces a tall task with a trip to top-seeded Sterling.
All games are at 6 p.m. today.
On the girls side (again, all games are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. today), Second-seeded Valley will play host to No. 7 seed Estes Park while third-seeded Eaton will face No. 6 seed Frontier Academy in Eaton. Fourth seed Platte Valley also earned itself a home game, playing host to Brush.
In Class 4A boys state tournament action, third-seeded Windsor earned a first-round bye and will play host to the winner of the game between sixth seed Kennedy and 11th seed Pueblo South.
In a different quarter of the bracket, No. 5 seed Greeley Central plays host to No. 12 seed Glenwood Springs on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday is an all-Weld matchup between No. 8 seed Roosevelt and No. 9 seed Weld Central at Roosevelt.
All times for Class 4A boys and girls games are TBD.
On the girls side, the Windsor girls are in the same spot as the boys with a No. 3 seed and a first-round bye. The Wizards will play host to the winner of the game between No. 6 seeded Green Mountain and No. 11 seed Steamboat Springs. Windsor’s game is slated for Friday.
Weld Central’s girls enter the tournament as a No. 7 seed and play host to 10th seed Mead tonight. No 9 seed Roosevelt hits the road to face No. 8 seed Golden tonight.
At the Class 5A level, 12th seeded Greeley Central will travel to No. 5 seed Heritage for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
In Class 2A action, the Highland boys will play host to Alexander Dawson at 6:30 p.m. today while the Highland girls face either Lyons or Longmont Christian at 5 p.m. today at Highland.
In other girls action, Dayspring hosts Alexander Dawson and Union Colony heads to Liberty Common. Both games are at 5 p.m. today.
The Class 1A district tournament kicks off today as well, with all games held at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. On the boys side, Prairie is set to play Peetz at 4 p.m., Pawnee faces Weldon Valley at 5:30 p.m. and Briggsdale faces off with Caliche at 7 p.m.
In girls action, Prairie faces Briggsdale at 4 p.m. while Pawnee goes against Weldon Valley at 5:30 p.m.
