Weld County Attorney Bruce Barker will present his opinion during the Weld County Council meeting Monday on the disputed term limits involving the clerk and recorder and sheriff.
The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Weld County Administration Building, 1150 O St. Residents are invited to attend.
Barker has said previously he believes both Clerk and Recorder Steve Moreno and Sheriff John Cooke cannot run for re-election in 2014, having reached the limit of three consecutive terms set by Weld’s Home Rule Charter. Moreno and Cooke believe that terms served before 2007 do not count against term limits because that is when voters approved the limit of three consecutive terms in Weld County.
The council also recently appointed a new at-large member. Jeffrey T. Hare of Greeley is the founder and CEO of ERP Risk Advisors, a consulting firm specializing in businesses that use applications by software maker Oracle Corp. Hare also is a member and the former president of the Weld County CSU Extension Advisory Board. He will be one of two at-large members serving the council alongside three members representing county districts.
