Greeley, Weld County floodplain maps updated

The most current flood studies for Greeley and Weld County are now updated in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood insurance map.

Residents can go to www.hazards.fema.gov/femaportal/prelimdownload/searchresult.action to see if insurance rates for their homes or businesses have changed since the late-1970s and early-1980s, which is the last time the maps were updated.

Homes and businesses in “special flood hazard areas” with mortgages from federally regulated or insured lenders are required to have flood insurance, according to a news release. The final maps and studies should be published by the summer 2014.

The map for homes and businesses within Greeley city limits is “Map 08123CIND0A.”

For more information or questions on a status change, contact Derek Glosson, Greeley’s floodplain administrator, at derek.glosson@greeleygov.com or (970) 350-9798.
