What services do you offer? Spokes is a full-service bicycle shop. We sell new and some used bicycles along with a full selection of parts and accessories, apparel, helmets and shoes. We can fix anything and we are quite capable of doing things other bicycle shop won’t even consider.
How long has your business been in Windsor? We have been serving Windsor since 2006. We opened in the Ace shopping center, then moved to this location two years ago. There is a need for a full-service bike shop here in Windsor.
Who is the owner and for how long? Locally owned and operated for seven years by David and Sheri Roberts. We live here in Windsor, shop, eat, etc. We enjoy our town and work hard to keep our business here.
Why did you want to start this venture? When we opened there was no full-service bicycle shop in Windsor. David took his passion and interests and turned them into a business. He wanted to do something that would keep him close to home as his family grew up.
Why should people do business with you? Being local, people who do business here keep their money in Windsor, helping our local community with their tax dollars. Spokes can do everything that any of the other shops around can do. We are fast, friendly and work hard to keep our customers happy.
What’s the most interesting client story? Spokes has had over the years the opportunity to custom make items for special needs kids. We take great pride in our design work and have been able to come up with some creative solutions. We recently built an adapter to turn an adult tricycle into a trailer so the child could have the freedom of riding all the while the parent remains in control.
What’s the most challenging part of operating in the community? The economy has still not recovered to what it was pre-2010, so keeping the correct items in stock is a challenge. There is very little that we cannot get, and we do our best to have a great selection.
What else might people not know about you? We care about our customers’ needs. We care about our community. Any bike ridden is a good bike. We want people to be happy with riding, so we do not disrespect people for their choice of bicycles. We want people to buy from us, but understand that is not always possible, and we will care for whatever bicycle or need that is brought our way.
