Officials in Weld County’s 19th Judicial District are calling for applications for one district court judge position and one position on the judicial nominating commission.
The judicial district’s nominating commission will meet on Nov. 6 to interview and select nominees for the district court judge’s position, vacated by the resignation of Dinsmore Tuttle in November. Gov. John Hickenlooper will select one appointee to fill the position.
Applicants must be qualified electors of the 19th Judicial District and must have been admitted to practice law in Colorado for five years. The annual salary for the position is $133,228. The judge will serve for two years and must then be approved by voters. If approved, the judge will serve six more years.
Application forms are available from the office of the ex-officio chair of the nominating commission, Justice Nancy Rice, 2 E. 14th Ave., Denver, CO 80203; and the office of the district administrator, Karen Salaz, Weld County Courthouse, 901 9th Ave., Greeley, CO 80632. Applications also are available on the court’s home page at www.courts.state.co.us/Careers/Judge.cfm.
The original, signed application and an identical copy in PDF form must be filed with the ex-officio no later than 4 p.m. on Oct. 17. Late applications will not be considered. Anyone wishing to nominate a candidate may do so by letter to any member of the nominating commission with a copy to the ex-officio chair by 4 p.m. on Oct. 10.
The members of the nominating commission for the 19th Judicial District are: Richard Bond, Rhonda Solis, Amy Antommaria, Lynn Karowsky and Judy Knapp, all of Greeley.
There also will be one attorney vacancy on the judicial nominating commission.
Each district in the state has a nominating commission of three attorneys, four non-attorneys who select nominees for appointment to county and judicial judgeships.
All commission positions are volunteer. Applications for the attorney vacancy are due by 5 p.m. on Oct. 11. Application forms may be found on the Colorado Judicial Department Website at www.courts.state.co.us/Courts/Supreme_Court/Nominating.cfm.
