Auction held by Lauren Project
The Lauren Project will be hosting its fourth annual silent auction from 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday at the Pelican Lakes Clubhouse, 1600 Pelican Lakes Point, in Windsor.
The event will celebrate the past year’s activities with jazz music from Shilo Stroman and his band, food, a recap of the past year’s activities and a lot of items to bid on. Everyone is welcome.
The Lauren Project was created to honor the memory and passion of Lauren Moilien Johnson, who was killed by carbon monoxide poisoning on Jan. 5, 2009. The organization focuses on carbon monoxide education and gives grants to young people ages 21-35 to do international volunteer mission work. Johnson graduated from Windsor High School in 2004.
According to a news release from The Lauren Project, the past year has seen 15 volunteers sent to Nicaragua, Ecuador, Ethiopia and Uganda to work in orphanages, slums, medical clinics and a variety of social service organizations. The Lauren Project volunteers also worked closely with the Loveland Fire Authority to implement a FEMA grant that focused on distribution of more than 800 carbon monoxide and 1,600 smoke alarms in the Loveland community.
