The 31st annual Windsor Police/Optimist Club Halloween Party will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Windsor Community Recreation Center, 250 11th St., for kids of all ages.
Windsor police started the party following the Chicago Tylenol murders in 1982 when seven people died after taking Tylenol capsules that had been poisoned.
The Windsor Optimist Club and Windsor police have teamed up to put on the event over the last three decades. Other service organizations such as the Windsor Rotary Club and Windsor High School Key Club are also helping out during the event.
Windsor Police Chief John Michaels expects from 300 to 500 kids at the event.
“The worse the weather, the better the turnout,” Michaels said. “If it’s snowing and cold out there, we get absolutely mobbed. We always manage to give away every piece of candy we buy for this. That’s our goal. This is for kids of all ages from any community. It’s to provide a safe atmosphere for children.”
