Windsor man kidnapped woman before drugging and assaulting her, police say

A Windsor resident was arrested this week on suspicion of kidnapping a woman at knife-point from the Safeway parking lot, drugging her, holding her captive and sexually assaulting her, according to an arrest affidavit.

Dustin Toth, 25, is facing multiple felony counts stemming from the ordeal the woman told police began Sunday evening and lasted through Monday morning.

Toth and the woman knew each other from an information technology job in Boulder, according to the affidavit. The woman told police the two were never romantically involved, yet Toth would sometimes call or text her to vent about personal problems. On Sunday, the two agreed to meet because he “needed a friend” to talk to regarding his upcoming Army National Guard deployment, she told police.

The woman, who now lives in Fort Collins, is not from northern Colorado and did not know the Windsor community well, she told police. She parked her vehicle on the east side of the Safeway parking lot, 1535 Main St., and Toth soon arrived and met with a “sketchy guy” in a black car who the woman assumed was a drug dealer.

Moments later, she got into Toth’s car, and the two began talking about ways he could avoid being deployed. Toth then told the woman she should leave her fiancé, but she dismissed the idea and said she was looking forward to starting a family soon, according to the affidavit.

That’s when Toth reportedly grabbed a knife from the center console and started threatening her with it. He got out of the vehicle and started walking toward the grocery store, and when the woman tried to escape toward Main Street, he chased her down, threw her into the backseat and engaged the children’s locks to prevent her from escaping.

He then went into the store and came back with a fruit-flavored drink that he made her drink. She told police it was bitter and tasted like it had been spiked, and she soon started feeling “loopy.” That’s when he drove her to his home in the 900 block of Mesa Court in Windsor, escorted her into a basement bedroom, taped a bottle of wine to her hand and forced her to drink it, according to the affidavit.

He punched and sexually assaulted her while she drifted in and out of consciousness, she told police, adding that she remembered him turning up the volume on movies. She didn’t remember much else until Monday morning when she woke up next to Toth in bed.

He then told her, “I did this because I love you,” she told police, adding that he forcefully tried to remove her engagement ring and took cash she had in her pocket.

Toth allowed her to leave the home but threatened the lives of her and her fiancé if she went to police, according to the affidavit. She did not know where she was but managed to wander to somewhere near the 1200 block of Main Street. She found her vehicle still in the parking lot and drove to the hospital in Fort Collins.
