Spokes owner once again running ‘Coats for Folks’ drive through December

Dave Roberts is doing his part in helping the community.

Roberts, the owner of Spokes Inc., is once again running a coats and clothing drive called “Coats for Folks” and has a bin in front of his store, 1530-C Main St., for people to drop off clothing at for the Christmas season.

Roberts calls it a coat drive, but he said clothing is also being accepted. The bin is outside his bicycle shop 24/7. He said the clothing can be new or “lovingly” used.

This is the fifth year for “Coats for Folks” and it will run through Dec. 31. The clothes will go to the Greeley Interfaith Clothing Bank, 228 N. 9th Ave. in Greeley.

Roberts said last year more than 200 coats were collected.

“We did 22 very large bags of coats and clothing last year,” Roberts said of the lawn and leaf bags full of clothing. “We take anything as far as clothing related.”

Roberts said the Greeley Interfaith Clothing Bank distributes the clothing as necessary.

“Little kids (clothing) is always a heavy demand,” Roberts said. “Because of the flood, the demand is high.”

Roberts said it’s important for him to contribute to the Windsor community.

“I think part of being a responsible member of the community is being involved with what’s going on in the community,” Roberts said. “Doing things with the bikes, doing things that keep people active ... we fix up bikes for the Optimist Club and they give them away at Christmas time. We try to stay involved.”
