Weld residents can get help paying energy bills, fixing heaters

Limited-income Coloradans who are behind on paying their home energy bill can call Colorado’s toll-free HEAT-HELP line at 1-866-432-8435 for assistance.

Those whose home energy systems are not working and can’t afford to pay for repairs can apply for the Crisis Intervention Program toll-free at 1-855-469-4328.

“The week of below-freezing temperatures we’re expecting presents a safety situation for anyone who can’t afford to pay their home energy bill or have their broken furnace repaired,” said Skip Arnold, executive director at Energy Outreach Colorado.

“This cold streak also will result in increased winter energy bills,” he added. “We anticipate a greater number of Colorado households will need assistance paying their energy bills in the coming weeks.”

Energy Outreach works with 125 emergency assistance organizations across the state and the Colorado Low-Income Energy Assistance Program to help limited-income households pay overdue energy bills.

Since Oct. 1, about 4,000 Colorado households have received energy bill payment assistance averaging about $370.
