Windsor Police Department plays Santa Claus for more than 30 children

The Windsor Police Department delivered some much needed joy to some children in Windsor who probably need a pick-me-up more than most during the Christmas season.

The Windsor police officers, as they have done for the past couple of decades, participated in Santa Cops and delivered presents to 31 children in the Windsor area during the Christmas season.

“Children who normally wouldn’t have a Christmas due to their circumstances, we try to get them some presents,” Windsor police Lt. Richard Higuera said.

Higuera said the presents, which filled one of the rooms in the police department, are donated and various law enforcements agencies throughout Weld County package and wrap them, and then the individual police departments distribute them.

Higuera said a child will receive at least one really nice present, and he added that it’s always nice to be able to put a smile on a kid’s face.

“Amidst all the things we do, being able to give a smile or two to little kids in the community makes it worthwhile,” Higuera said.

Higuera said referrals regarding who receives the presents come from the schools, other police officers or community members.

“It’s one of the good things that we can do for the community,” Higuera said.
